Concerned National Black Nurses of CSRA

Black Family Wellness Expo

Posted about 1 month ago by Wendy Sawyer

March 16 was a perfect Saturday for people to engage in fun, family, and healthy activities. On this day, The Links Incorporated sponsored a “National Day of Impact” across the country. The local Chapter hosted the Black Family Wellness Expo at the HUB for Community Innovation in Augusta, GA to raise awareness of the conditions that disproportionately impact the African American community. They offered resources on dental, mental, and physical health, prostate and breast cancer, organ donation, kidney and vision testing to list a few. Several members of the Concerned National Black Nurses were on hand to take blood pressures and teach self-breast examination. There were food, workshops and kid activities as well; it was a very exciting and fulfilling day for families and vendors alike!

We got an opportunity to meet and speak to Ms. Sheila Lineberry, the daughter of Ms. Clymonteen Jones. Ms. Jones, a graduate of Lamar School of Nursing, was a pioneer and one of the first Black nurses at Talmadge Memorial Hospital, a teaching hospital for the Medical College of Georgia and known for many “firsts”. Her story can be found at https://www.augustachronicle.com/story/lifestyle/health-fitness/2015/02/22/nurse-helped-transform-talmadge-units/14377907007/
