Scholarship Fundraiser Luncheon 2023
Posted over 1 year ago by Wendy Sawyer
The Scholarship Fundraiser Luncheon was a resounding SUCCESS!! This was our first post-pandemic celebration and this year's theme was "Engaging and Empowering the Community… Easy as ABCD", where we:
A- Advocate for Health Policies
B- Build Relationships with Our Partners
C- Center on Health and Wellness
D- Develop Nurse Leaders
Dr Bevel & Rev Francois
Dr Bevel, Guest Speaker
Rev Francois, Master of Ceremonies
CNBN Members
Our guest speaker, Dr. Malcolm Bevel PhD, is a chronic disease/cancer epidemiologist with extensive experience in the health disparities in the African American community whose research examines the role of food deserts and swamps on obesity-related cancers. He along with our master of ceremonies Reverend Brennan Francois, the chief diversity officer for Augusta University Health, kept our guests fully engaged with their delightful and often amusing discussion on these important health themes that often plagued the African American community.
After a delicious healthy lunch of salads prepared by Chef DW Willis and listening to musical selections from JaVonne Jones, it was time to get the audience involved in a community brainstorming activity. Our guests outdid themselves collaborating with each other and discussing and reporting on how our theme is realized within the organization and the community. Outstanding!!!
It was a wonderful day of networking and learning made possible by the members of the Concerned National Black Nurses. However, a special thanks to our Fundraiser Committee- Theresa Brisker, Antonio Golden, Tracy Miller, and Wendy Sawyer- for their tireless efforts in coordinating this event.
