LAUNCH Camp 2024
Posted about 2 years ago by Wendy Sawyer
On July 8, CNBN members spent the day at LAUNCH camp. Established in 2017, Leaders and Adolescents Uniting to Navigate Careers in Healthcare, Inc. (LAUNCH) is a non-profit organization aimed at increasing diversity in healthcare professions by educating youth (1st - 12th grade). Specifically, LAUNCH Camp encourages interest in pursuing a career in healthcare by actively engaging students in 1st - 12th grade. Students are exposed to fun and attention-grabbing activities directly from healthcare professionals. Learning about various healthcare profession choices allows students to gain access to a larger realm of career choices and to decide their personal best career path.
Each year Dr. Kendra Broussard DNP, Founder & President, hosts approximately 150 students representing K-12th grade. Members of the CNBN were tasked with teaching CPR to a small group of six and seven year olds. Basic tasks included identifying an unconscious patient, ensuring scene safety, activating 9-1-1, and beginning chest compressions. To make it fun, our VP Antonio Golden sang “Staying Alive” to demonstrate the rate of compressions. This brought a chuckle from the students and onlookers, but it worked! Students exhibited remarkable understanding by effectively demonstrating the correct rate and other key concepts.
President Emeritus Dr. Nash-Teachey, President Rainge, and Member T. Miller were on hand to assist.
