Job Summary And Qualifications
The Registered Nurse coordinates and delivers high quality, patient-centered care in accordance with the nature and specific requirements of the department, and consistent with the scope and standards of practice for the relevant state and specialty. Job Summary And Qualifications

What you will do in this role:
- Assesses patient condition during admission and during each shift as scheduled and/or as needed, identifying and reporting any changes in patient status.
- Assesses patient environment for any safety risks and/or non-compliance with regulatory standards.
- Assesses patient pain regularly to promote effective pain management, including reassessments after appropriate intervention.
- Assesses patient condition for signs and symptoms of abuse or neglect. Reports any indications of abuse or neglect to medical provider(s), nurse leader, and/or appropriate agency.
- Performs procedures, monitoring, or other functions as ordered by the medical provider(s). Documents the administration of care in the patient medical record in a timely and thorough manner.
- Performs the administration of prescribed medications. Monitors patient for therapeutic response. Notifies provider and intervenes as appropriate in the event of an unintended response to medication.
- Performs exceptional care by responding promptly to patient requests. Strives to anticipate patient needs and resolve them proactively.
- Teaches patients/families/caregivers about patient medical condition, patient status, treatment plan, medications and possible side effects, and follow-up measures. Translates complex medical terminology to ensure complete understanding.
- Teaches patients/families/caregivers about any non-medicinal follow-up measures, such as healthy diet and exercise, disease prevention, and/or other lifestyle changes. Prepares patients and families/caregivers for future self-management.
- Manages a care team, providing oversight and delegation to members as appropriate.
- Manages evidence-based practices and continuous process improvement initiatives to meet and exceed quality measures and enhance the exceptional care provided to patients.
- Manages the quality of care by collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to coordinate, evaluate, customize, and deliver a holistic patient treatment plan that promotes and supports recovery.
- Manages the continuation of care by serving as the interface between healthcare providers and community support systems who coordinate ongoing care needs for specialized patient groups.
- Demonstrates necessary practical, technical, or specialized skills required for the perioperative nurse, in accordance with AORN and other regulatory standards of practice.
- Assumes responsibility for preparation of surgical suite, including OR schedule verification, overseeing area safety and regulatory compliance, instrument and equipment setup, accuracy and completeness of medical charts, and readiness of medicines and other supplies.
- Assumes responsibility for patient preparation, including intravenous therapy, preoperative medications, surgical site verification, and patient positioning and/or draping.
- Participates in surgical site verification, including briefing, time out, debriefing, and universal protocols, according to hospital policy.
- Circulates or scrubs for surgical procedures in accordance with current practice. Serves as first assistant as needed, if credentialed. Operates essential equipment during procedure as needed and ensures proper function.
- Monitors patient vital signs and comfort level throughout the procedure and promptly alerts surgical team of any change in status or potential harm. Recognizes signs and symptoms of patient condition that indicate complications and reports to surgeon/anesthesiologist immediately.
- Recognizes emergency situations and responds effectively in a calm and controlled manner.
- Ensures adherence to quality and safety regulations during the intra-operative process, including sterile techniques, accurate documentation of supply and equipment counts, and proper care and handling of tissues, implants, specimens, and cultures.
- Serves as an example of professional nursing practice and promotes pride in nursing for the organization, the community, and the health care industry.
- Demonstrates caring and empathy in all interactions and advocates for patient- and family-centered approach in all decisions and actions.
- Engages in evidence-based best practices that enhance the patient experience, including SAFETY rounding, communication fundamentals/AIDET, Teach-Back, Narrating Care, etc.
- Articulates a clear understanding of how to integrate patient experience behaviors into quality, safety, and nursing practice.
- Demonstrates excellent communication skills, including active listening. Ensures patients, physicians, and colleagues have a clear understanding of all communications, and escalates care concerns appropriately.
- Participates as an engaged, active member of the health care team and positively promotes the rest of the team to patients/families/caregivers and other colleagues.
- Maintains a professional appearance and demonstrates behaviors consistent with established policies/procedures.
- Participates in professional practice activities and advocates for shared governance functions.
- Seeks opportunities to continue to grow professionally through learning through HCA programs, classes, and offerings, and through outside learning, research, and school. Shares new knowledge with peers and, when appropriate, utilizes new evidence-based knowledge to drive process improvement.
